Cheer Chen - [The Sun] Singapore Concert 2009

I started off feeling a litte ashamed seeing the blocks of empty seats that remained unfilled even after the concert started. Her latest concerts in Shanghai and Taiwan were sold out at record speed, so the lukewarm response she got here must say something about the average Singaporean's ability to appreciate mandarin pop beyond Jay Chou. But the poor turnout notwithstanding, sometimes all you need is an exceptionally talented singer and her brilliant band to make a stellar concert. There's just so many things one can like about her - the special quality in her voice, the depth and beauty of her lyrics, her charming good looks, the awkward gentleness when she speaks et cetera. Effortlessly, she transformed us from stagnant and shy audience into the most raucous of fans, and enjoying her own performance she embraced all four encore requests making the concert a full three-hour deal. This would be a night to remember for all who went.
